Hang Tag Size Guide: Standard Clothing Tag Sizes
Updated
The most widely used clothing hang tag size is 2 × 3.5 inches (51 × 89 mm) — the same footprint as a business card. Smaller 2 × 3 inch tags suit compact garments, while 2.5 × 4 and 3 × 5 inch tags leave room for care details or brand storytelling. Below are the standard sizes and how to choose between them.
Standard hang tag sizes
| Size (inches) | Size (mm) | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| 2 × 3 in | 51 × 76 mm | Compact tags for small garments |
| 2 × 3.5 in | 51 × 89 mm | The most widely used clothing hang tag size |
| 2.5 × 4 in | 64 × 102 mm | Larger tags with care and size details |
| 3 × 5 in | 76 × 127 mm | Premium tags with brand storytelling |
| Custom | Any size | Cut to any dimension you specify |
How to choose a hang tag size
- Start from what the tag has to carry. A logo alone fits a small tag; size, price, care and a QR code need 2.5 × 4 inches or more.
- Match the tag to the garment. A large tag on a kids' tee or a small tag on a heavy jacket both look out of proportion.
- Keep one size across a collection, so the tags read as a system on the rail.
- Leave room for the hole. The string or eyelet hole sits near the top edge, so keep text and logos clear of that area.
Custom sizes and shapes
Hang tags are not limited to rectangles. Custom dies allow rounded, square, circular and fully bespoke outlines, cut to any size you enter. In the Bae Tags builder you can pick a standard size or type in your own dimensions in millimetres, centimetres or inches.
